Navigating Holiday Stress by Kristen "Kitty" Hovatter

How are you taking care of yourself this holiday season? Identify the things you genuinely care about, what things you only hope to accomplish, and what you’d like to stop worrying about:

We all know that the holidays can bring joy and happiness. They can also bring with them large amounts of stress. From holiday meal planning to where to spend the holidays, things can get…well…hairy. We all want to make the holidays magical and special for our loved ones, and the weight of those expectations can sometimes hit us like an overloaded Amazon delivery van!

So how can we combat holiday stress? This time of year, there are endless tips and tricks out there promising you anything and everything…and the question is “what works for me?”.

The answer - the things that resonate with you are usually what will work best for you. We recommend you take some time to stop and think about what is most important to you about the holidays.

  • What traditions do you love, which ones do you maybe want to change?
  • Do you need a more streamlined holiday this year?
  • What would bring you the most peace and joy with the least amount of stress?

Once you have an idea of that, go ahead and make your plans. The most important thing about the holidays is to enjoy the time with your loved ones. Go as big or small as you want for this holiday season, and let yourself enjoy the season - without the weight of expectations or comparisons to others.
