What is DBT?
(DBT) Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is an evidence based treatment developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan. Those of us who have difficulty managing intense or painful emotions need a variety of tools to cope effectively. DBT combines the best of cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness practices to deliver healthy skills and strategies to the people who need it most.
DBT has been shown to be an effective treatment for a wide variety of chronic conditions including personality disorders, anxiety, depression, PTSD and substance abuse.
Learn more about DBT here.
During the first session, you can expect to have an overview of DBT and education on emotions in general. Each class starts with mindfulness, continues to skills and ends with practice.
All classes will be held via Zoom

DBT can help you…
- Calm intense emotions
- Decrease risky/self-harm behaviors
- Advocate for yourself
- Strengthen and maintain important relationships
- Think before you react
What to Expect
The DBT Class is 90 minutes and includes skills training on 4 different modules:
- Mindfulness
- Emotion Regulation
- Distress Tolerance
- Interpersonal Skills
Weekly homework assignments allow additional opportunities to integrate new skills into daily life. The best part is, you can’t do DBT wrong!
Individual Therapy
Please note, our DBT Informed Skills class is NOT a therapy group. It’s a class. There’s a workbook and assignments each week. That said, clients are strongly encouraged to be in regular individual therapy, either with a therapist at Inner-Evolution or in another practice or community agency. Having a consistent therapy experience helps increase awareness and understanding of how to improve healthy behavioral patterns. Your therapist offers valuable support and coaching to assist you in achieving goals framed within the DBT model.
The DBT class I took helped me tremendously. I was skeptical that I would be able to speak my truth on zoom in front of 12 people, but every single person in my class was honest, vulnerable and supportive. Jesse created a warm and safe environment to learn and grow without fear.
