Is Therapy Right for Me?

How do I know if I need therapy?

People come to therapy for many different reasons. Sometimes it’s because something feels overwhelming or stuck, and other times it’s a desire to better understand yourself or your relationships.

You don’t have to be in crisis to begin therapy. If you’re feeling curious about your patterns, your emotional experience, or how you want to move forward, therapy can be a meaningful place to explore that.

Does therapy actually work?

Therapy can be very effective, particularly when there is a strong relationship between you and your therapist.

Rather than offering quick fixes, therapy creates space to understand patterns, process experiences, and develop new ways of relating to yourself and others. Over time, this often leads to more meaningful and lasting change.

What is therapy like at Inner Evolution?

Therapy at Inner Evolution is collaborative, reflective, and grounded in relationship.

We take time to understand your experiences, your goals, and what feels most important to you. From there, the work unfolds at a pace that supports both insight and meaningful change.

What makes Inner Evolution different from other therapy practices?

We focus on depth-oriented therapy that prioritizes relationship, insight, and meaningful change.

Rather than a high-volume or one-size-fits-all approach, we take time to thoughtfully match clients with therapists and support work that goes beyond surface-level symptom relief. We also offer specialized services such as couples therapy and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy for those seeking deeper transformation.

Is therapy better than AI or big tech solutions for mental health?

AI and big tech platforms can offer helpful tools and immediate support, but they are not a replacement for therapy.

Research consistently shows that one of the strongest predictors of meaningful change in therapy is the quality of the relationship between client and therapist. Therapy works through connection—being understood, challenged, and supported by another person who can respond to you in real time.

AI tools, while useful in some contexts, are limited in their ability to recognize nuance, adapt relationally, or take responsibility for care. In some cases, they may reinforce existing patterns rather than help shift them.

At Inner Evolution, we believe lasting change happens within a human relationship—where there is depth, accountability, and space for real transformation.

Couples Therapy

Does couples therapy actually work?

Couples therapy can be highly effective when both partners are willing to engage in the process.

Rather than focusing only on communication strategies, therapy helps identify the underlying patterns and dynamics that contribute to conflict or disconnection, creating the opportunity for more meaningful change.

When should couples go to therapy?

Couples often seek therapy when they feel stuck in recurring patterns, communication has become difficult, or there is a sense of distance in the relationship.

Therapy can also be helpful earlier on, as a way to better understand one another and strengthen the relationship before challenges become more established.

What if my partner doesn’t want to go to therapy?

It’s very common for partners to feel differently about starting therapy.

Sometimes it can help to begin with an open conversation about what each person hopes for, or to start individually and revisit the idea together later. We are also available to help guide that process if needed.

Ketamine Assisted Psychtherapy

What is ketamine therapy?

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy differs from standalone ketamine treatment in that it is grounded in an ongoing therapeutic relationship, where preparation and integration are essential parts of the process.

In a carefully guided setting, this approach can create opportunities for new perspectives, emotional access, and deeper reflection, which are then integrated through ongoing therapy.

Who is a good fit for ketamine therapy?

Ketamine therapy may be helpful for individuals who feel stuck in patterns that have not shifted through traditional approaches, or who are seeking a different way of engaging in the therapeutic process.

A thoughtful screening process helps determine whether this approach is appropriate based on your needs and history.

How is ketamine therapy different from regular therapy?

Traditional therapy often unfolds through conversation and reflection over time.

Ketamine therapy can offer a different entry point, allowing for new insights or emotional experiences that can then be explored and integrated within the therapeutic relationship.

Do you accept insurance?

Some individual therapy services may be covered by Cigna, CareFirst, or UnitedHealthcare, depending on the therapist and service.

For services that are not covered by insurance, we offer a range of options, including out-of-pocket payment, tiered “pay what you can” pricing, and, in some cases, counseling grants for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse who are living in Frederick County.

We are happy to help you explore what options may be available to you.
